“Never too late, too late to start start, never too late, too late to start start”
Wiz Khalifa, “Never Too Late“
I had the opportunity to be interviewed by CEO Catherine Hokes of Defy Ventures, a non-profit organization that helps transform those with criminal histories into entrepreneurs and upstanding citizens. Catherine and I chatted in front of an audience of Defy members, and it was uplifting to see their eager, inspired, and motivated expressions. These entrepreneur-hopefuls, as well as Catherine and her team impressed me so much that I’ve joined Defy’s Advisory Board! I look forward to supporting the cause to help formerly incarcerated people develop entrepreneurial skills.
Here’s a video of my Defy Ventures interview, in which I talk about entrepreneurial lessons gleaned from ultramarathons, rebounding from failure, my early entrepreneurial experience, advice for early-stage entrepreneurs, and the importance of character. My tips and thoughts apply to entrepreneurs of all backgrounds.

Good talk; wonderful organization, had never heard of Defy. How do they connect students/grads to VC funding?
